About Me

My photo
Being an Urban Explorer and a keen amateur photographer gives me the chance to document and record derelict and abandoned buildings that are not normally seen. It's a hidden and forgotten world of true beauty and natural decay.

The Dark Room.

Light of life come shine on me.
And penetrate my core.
Take me from this darkness.
So i may see once more.

Never Surrender.

It creeps within to stake It's claim.
To hide her broken scar.
Will she succumb to nature.
Is this a bridge too far.

Behind Bars.

Her face is dark.
But she's ageing well.
She's stood the test of time.
And through her life of slow decay.
Cut off within her prime.

Point Of View

The seeds of change are planted.
But my view remains the same.
This is my dream... This is my home.
My picture in a frame.

The 39 Steps.

I've been your footing for many years.
And my path you do still tread.
I've heard you whispering on the stairs.
Where many a tale has been said.

A Warm Welcome

May the light in the land of plenty.
Put warmth in your soul today.
Give life back as you so deserve.
Or is this the price you pay?

The Window Box.

Her windows and doors are open.
For all to come and see.
And the pleasure that she radiates.
Is embedded within me.

The Waiting.

A pillar of strength... that has served her well.
But the layers are fading fast.
But she glows in radiant colour... A reminder of her past.

Secret Garden

With weakened limbs... her sadness on show.
A helping hand from the garden doth grow.
But her heart is strong... and her will is deep.
She will not go... She will not sleep.

The Silent Stairs

The passage of time! now stands still.
And the whispering wind doth blow.
In state of decay.... the will has gone.
This is her Cinema Show.

Westwood Mill

She basks alone in the sunshine.
But there's a battle of evermore.
How long must i wait here standing.
Afore someone doth knock on my door.

Derelict but loved.

This was a project that gave me immense pleasure and a feeling of deep satisfaction.

Having worked within the textile industry, and being able to understand the great skills involved in building these magnificent mills, I found it very fitting that i should capture what is probably the oldest textile mill still standing in the Colne Valley.

The mill itself is grade 2 listed and dates back to the late 18th century when it was owned by the Shaw brothers. John,Jonathan,Joseph and Ely. Was then part leased in the late 1890's by Joseph Hoyle's. And in 1910 Colne Valley Spinning. Believed to have suffered a fire in 1977? She stands proudly on the banks of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Linthwaite. The whole of this valley once echoed with the sound of rattling looms. But now, and with great sadness, a thing of the past.

This is my ode to this beautiful building.
