About Me

My photo
Being an Urban Explorer and a keen amateur photographer gives me the chance to document and record derelict and abandoned buildings that are not normally seen. It's a hidden and forgotten world of true beauty and natural decay.

Derelict but loved.

This was a project that gave me immense pleasure and a feeling of deep satisfaction.

Having worked within the textile industry, and being able to understand the great skills involved in building these magnificent mills, I found it very fitting that i should capture what is probably the oldest textile mill still standing in the Colne Valley.

The mill itself is grade 2 listed and dates back to the late 18th century when it was owned by the Shaw brothers. John,Jonathan,Joseph and Ely. Was then part leased in the late 1890's by Joseph Hoyle's. And in 1910 Colne Valley Spinning. Believed to have suffered a fire in 1977? She stands proudly on the banks of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Linthwaite. The whole of this valley once echoed with the sound of rattling looms. But now, and with great sadness, a thing of the past.

This is my ode to this beautiful building.
